LuLu’s Express is a no-frills spot in west Charlotte that caters to seafood lovers looking for hearty, Southern-style platters without a long sit-down dining experience. With its location on Tuckaseegee Road, it feels like a neighborhood go-to where folks swing by for generously portioned meals packed with familiar flavors—think fried and grilled fish, shrimp, crab cakes, and a variety of classic sides like collard greens, mac and cheese, and candied yams.

The setup leans toward quick service rather than formal dining, though there is some space to eat in if you want to enjoy your meal on site. It’s helpful to know that popular items like the crab cakes can come with waits, especially during busier hours, so timing your visit earlier or off-peak might be best if you’re craving the signature seafood dishes without delay.

LuLu’s kitchen shines with its take on comfort seafood classics, balancing seasoning and portion size without veering into heavy or overly salty territory. Staples such as the catfish platter come paired with traditional sides that complement the main dish well, while combos like the salmon and shrimp platters offer options for those who want a bit of variety on their plate. The house-made sauces add a personalized touch, with tartar and hot sauce standing out as thoughtful accompaniments to the fried and grilled offerings.

The atmosphere is straightforward and friendly, with a community vibe that welcomes seniors and military members with a small discount—a nod to local appreciation. Most diners seem to come prepared to take food to go, making it a convenient stop for those craving a quality seafood meal without the wait or fuss of a full-service restaurant. The casual feel, combined with down-home cooking, makes it a practical choice for a filled-to-the-brim lunch or laid-back dinner.

For families or anyone who enjoys Southern seafood flavors done with care and ample portions, LuLu’s Express fits the bill. It’s a place where the food does the talking, and where a plate of shrimp and grits or crab fries delivers a taste of coastal soul amid the city’s western edge.

I stopped by, I do not regret it one bit and it’s worth experiencing. Catfish Platter — 4.5/5. My girl ordered this is and she loved it. The flavor of the yams and the mac, perfect sides for the catfish and rice. Cajun Salmon and Shrimp — 4-4.5/5. I loved everything about this but the only thing is I didn’t get that Cajun kick I was expecting. That aside, the mac was delicious and the greens did justice. If the Cajun cream sauce had some spiciness to it, this would easily be a 5/5 meal. I'll be back to try some more.

First time visiting here, decided to try the crab cake. The crab cake was delicious and meaty, but the wait was almost an hr. While waiting, I watch others come order and leave. 45 mins wait for crab cake is a no me. Definitely delicious for sure.

Louisiana native. Sometimes, we can try different foods in other places but instantly compare it to the food we grew up on in Louisiana. This hit my taste buds, and instantly, a smile followed there after. I ordered the Salmon and shrimp platter w/yellow rice with yams and Mac as the sides. Everything was amazingly good. Flavor was there in every bite. Nothing was too salty either. Highly recommend!!! Almost forgot about the cheesecake sweet potato. Delicious!

Every plate comes with a complementary rice you get a 10% discount for seniors & military. This is a black owned establishment. It’s more like an order to go, but you can dine in. I got the mac & cheese with greens fish, rice, and cornbread. The food is great Season to perfection and served with a smile. They make their own seasoned tartar sauce, and hot sauce. The tartar sauce goes very well with the fish. They offer daily specials. When I went, it was three pieces of fish for $10. The lemonade is homemade. It tasted great and very thirst quenching although I could stand a little less sugar. I suggest you give this place a try. It was quick in and quick out. Parking could be somewhat difficult, but this is an express where many people come just to pick up. The restaurant is quaint and cozy. Stop in and tell them Lisa sent you. Be aware that LOTS of food comes on the plate. If I’m remembering correctly my servers name was Sydney thank you for your great service. btw My total was 19 bucks but 17 with the discount. I don’t even usually like fried fish, but LuLu’s might’ve changed my mind! We got the fried fish and shrimp platter with seafood mac, asparagus, and collard greens—and everything was so good. The fish was perfectly seasoned and crispy, the shrimp were juicy, and the seafood mac was rich and flavorful without being too heavy. My only small critique is that the asparagus portion was pretty small, especially considering there’s an upcharge for it. Would’ve loved just a little more of that. Also, they add a bit of sugar to the collard greens. They were still really good, but just a heads up if you’re not a fan of sweet greens. Overall, everything hit. Definitely a solid soul food spot I’d come back to!
